At just six years old, the Ottawa Folk Festival is much younger and smaller than its counterparts in Western Canada. Despite a narrower definition of folk music than I am used to, weighing heavily toward mellow, white, acoustic guitar players, the calibre of the music was excellent.
These pages present some highlights from the 1999 festival, held at Britannia Park August 27 - 29. As I could not attend the entire festival and every workshop, some of the musicians are conspicuous by their absence.
